Small-scale multi-unit housing (Bill 44)

Provincial law now allows more homes on most residential lots.

In 2023 the Province passed Bill 44 to allow more small-scale housing, such as secondary suites, garden suites, duplexes, triplexes and townhouses, in areas that used to allow only single-family homes or duplexes. Local governments had to update their zoning bylaws to allow this by June 30, 2024.

The City’s information sheet explains how many homes your lot can have, the setbacks and parking that apply, and how to apply.
