Streets and roads
Public Works looks after about 198 km of paved roads and 43 km of gravel lanes and streets.
Road crews:
- plow and sand streets in winter
- repair and sweep streets
- maintain sidewalks, pathways and public parking lots
- keep ditches, culverts and storm drains clear
- maintain traffic and pedestrian signals, street lights and signs
Street lights
The City maintains more than 1,300 street lights and usually repairs one within ten business days of a report. Lights on wooden poles belong to BC Hydro: report those to the City too, and we’ll pass them on (BC Hydro sets its own repair times).
Traffic lights
The City maintains nine intersections with traffic lights and one signalled pedestrian crossing. The five traffic lights on Highway 3 belong to the Ministry of Transportation, and railway crossings belong to CPKC.
