Garbage and recycling
Garbage is picked up every week and recycling every two weeks. Have your carts at the curb by 7:30 am.
Your pickup day
You can also look up your address with the City’s collection schedule tool.
On collection day
- Carts must be at the curb by 7:30 am. Trucks run until 5 pm, but the time varies. If the truck has passed, your cart is missed.
- Put carts out only when they’re full or nearly full.
- Holidays: collection moves through the five zones one weekday at a time. After a weekday holiday, every zone’s pickup moves one day later and stays on the new day until the next holiday. Check the calendar, or set your address here to see your dates.
- Bad weather can delay or cancel collection. Watch City news and social media.
Where to put your carts
- Wheels against the curb, without blocking the road or bike lane.
- Leave about 1 metre (3 feet) around each cart, away from cars, poles, utility boxes and the sidewalk.
- No curb? Put carts at the end of your driveway, beside the road.
- In winter, put carts in your driveway, off the sidewalk and at least 1 metre from snowbanks and parked cars. Carts on snowbanks aren’t collected. Bring carts in soon after pickup so plows can clear.

Your carts
- Carts belong to the City and stay with your home. Both are 240 litres. You can ask for a smaller 120-litre cart by reporting it online.
- Only City carts are collected. Each one has a tag linked to your address.
- A lost or stolen cart costs $75 to replace. Report it so the contractor can try to find it using its serial number.
- A cart that breaks on its own is repaired or replaced under warranty. Damage from misuse may be billed to you.
Costs
Garbage collection is paid through your utility bill. Recycling is funded by Recycle BC and the Regional District. Service is required for all single-family homes, so you can’t opt out.
