RCMP

The Cranbrook RCMP detachment polices the city under contract with the City.

For police, fire or ambulance in an emergency, call 911.

The detachment has 35 officers (26 municipal and 9 provincial), including three Indigenous policing officers, plus 16 support staff.

Services

Frauds and scams

If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is. Common scams include fraudulent calls and emails (phishing), people pretending to be police, rental scams with fake landlords, “gifting” pyramids, card skimming at ATMs and PIN pads, and demands for payment in Bitcoin or gift cards.

  • Confirm a landlord is real before you pay rent or a deposit.
  • Talk to someone you trust before you pay anyone in Bitcoin or gift cards.
  • Report fraud to the RCMP and the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre, even if you didn’t lose money.

Volunteer with the RCMP

Volunteers help with community policing and crime prevention programs such as Block Watch, Citizens on Patrol and restorative justice. You need to be 19 or older, a Canadian citizen or a permanent resident for at least five years, able to give at least 4 hours a month for a year, attend training, and pass an interview and a security check. Ask at the detachment for an application.
