FireSmart

Simple steps around your home that greatly improve its chance of surviving a wildfire.

Homes that are prepared are homes that are left standing. The City supports FireSmart BC alongside its own wildfire fuel reduction work in nearby forests.

Start with your home ignition zone

Most homes lost to wildfire are lit by embers, not by the fire front. The space within 30 metres of your home matters most.

  1. Watch the home ignition zone assessment video.
  2. Walk your property with the assessment score cardPDF.
  3. Fix the biggest risks first using tips to FireSmart your homePDF.

Work with your neighbours

The City’s FireSmart Coordinator is a trained Local FireSmart Representative and can help your neighbourhood earn FireSmart Canada Neighbourhood Recognition.
